Merry Christmas! Kurnothi Wild Riders

Having wanted to paint something for the Holiday, I was thinking about Santa's elves and reindeers. Finally I've made something in-between: reindeer-elves centaurs ;) Can be used as Wild Riders (of which they've been made) or alternative Skaeth of Warhammer Underworlds. Merry Christmas!

Nie ogarnąłem w tym roku ŚWF, ale pomalować coś na Boże Narodzenie i tak chciałem. Myśli wybiegały mi ku reniferom i elfom Świętego Mikołaja i ostatecznie stanęło na czymś w pół drogi - reniferowo-elfich centaurach ;) Da się tego użyć jako Wild Riders (z nich powstały) albo alternatywnego Skaetha do Warhammer Underworlds. Wesołych Świąt!

I've painted to fit Orion and the Wild Hunt. It's fun and maybe someday will become something bigger.

Malowałem pod kolor Oriona i Wild Hunt. Miło to idzie i może będzie z tego kiedyś coś większego.

Grimdark Wood Elves Painting Tutorial

Despite I basically picked Skaeth's Wild Hunt and Orion painting method from Ex Profundis Black Sloth Hell Swamp Aelves painting tutorial (just without airbrush) and talked about it from the beginning, people still asked for a more detailed guide. Vox populi, vox dei - or so I've heard. So, without further ado, here comes a step-by-step grimdark wood elves (and kurnothi!) painting tutorial.

Mimo że sposób malowania Skaeth's Wild Hunt i Oriona wziąłem niemal 1:1 z zamieszczonego przez Ex Profundis tutoriala na temat malowania Swamp Aelfów z Black Sloth Hell (tylko bez aero) i wcale się z tym nie kryłem, ludzie prosili o bardziej szczegółową rozpiskę. Jak to mówią, vox populi, vox dei, więc, nie szczypiąc się, cyknąłem relację z kolejnych etapów prac nad grimdarkowym schematem malowania leśnych elfów (i "kurnockich" satyrów). Jako że nazwy farbek i technik i tak są po angielsku, dla porządku - z wyjątkiem komentarzy - podarowałem sobie niżej polskie wersje. Jeśli komuś to ułatwi, "skin", "fabrics", "leaves", "bones", "horns", "fur" to odpowiednio: "skóra", "tkaniny", "liście", "kości", "rogi" i "futro".

After that I applied Mr. Hobby Gloss Varnish from a can all over. It is said to preserve acrylic paints before applying oil washes and odorless thinner and improve the flow of the washes. Not sure if it is necessary, just haven't tried it without it. What's important: acrylic shades don't really flow on a surface varnished this way, so it's good to finish all work with them before spraying it over mini.

Po tym kroku spsikałem wszystko Gloss Varnishem Mr. Hobby z puchy. Podobno chroni warstwę akryli przed wpływem olejnych washy i ich rozcieńczalnika i poprawia spływanie w zagłębienia. Nie jestem pewien, czy ten krok jest konieczny, ale nie próbowałem jeszcze intensywnie washować w ten sposób z jego pominięciem. Co ważne, akrylowe shade'y nie płynęły mi jak trzeba po tak przygotowanej powierzchni, więc starałem się skończyć wszystkie prace z ich użyciem przed psikaniem.

Oil Wash

• Skin: Track Wash, Slimy Grime Light

• Fur: Dark Brown for Green Vehicles

I covered all the respective surfaces with washes and diluted and put them into recesses using Odorless Thinner afterwards. You can finish here or add some layers of highlights to regain control of light. For that I mostly used the colors used previously (Ulthuan Grey / Pallid Wych Flesh on skin / bone) with some white and Citadel Elysian Green on Leaves / Fabrics. If the glossy finish annoys you too much, you can finish off with matt varnish.

Po pokryciu danym washem całego obszaru rozcieńczyłem go i rozprowadziłem w zagłębieniach Odorless Thinnerem. Można na na tym skończyć albo dodać kilka warstw rozjaśnień, żeby odzyskać kontrolę nad światłem. Używałem do tego głównie wykorzystanych wcześniej kolorów (Ulthuan Grey / Pallid Wych Flesh na skórze / kości) z odrobiną białego i Citadelowego Elysian Green na liściach i tkaninach. Jeśli  po wszystkim ludzik świeci się za bardzo, można wykończyć go matowym varnishem.

Skaeth's Wild Hunt

As the blare of a hunter horn resounds through the woods and earth thunders with the pounding of cloven hooves, savage excitement and restless vigor spread through the forest as a wildfire. Fright fills foes of the nature as the every forest spirit is overcome with the primal urge to join the wild hunt and bring vengeance of Kurnoth in acts of the savagery untold.

Sheoch, Karthaen, Skaeth, Althaen

Skaeth Wild Hunt: Karthaen, Huntcaller

Apart from being given a mask as other humanoid members of the warband (see Sheoch & Althaen) Karthaen got the upper part fixed in order to get rid of silly-looking horn-blowing face of the original Karthaen, Huntcaller mini.

Konwertując Karthaena wykroczyłem nieco poza dodanie maski na wzór innych humanoidalnych członków ekipy (patrz Sheoch & Althaen). Żeby odejść od trochę śmiesznej, dmącej w róg twarzy  oryginalnej figurki Karthaena, podmieniłem mu całą górną część ciała, a róg dałem na plecy.

Skaeth's Wild Hunt: Sheoch & Althaen

I liked the dynamic stances of Skaeth's Wild Hunt minis a lot, but didn't really fancy their faces. Decided to keep the first and cover the other with some horned masks referring to Kurnoth/Kurnous depictions (Skaeth gave the good example). Here are some masked Kurnothi Trackers: Sheoch & Althaen.

Bardzo podobały mi się dynamiczne pozy Skaeth's Wild Hunt, ale twarze - już nie za bardzo. Postanowiłem zachowałać pierwsze, a drugie zakryć rogatymi maskami nawiązującymi do wyobrażeń Kurnotha/Kurnousa (dobry przykład w tym zakresie dał Skaeth). Moi "kurnoccy" tropiciele: Sheoch & Althaen.

Skaeth's Wild Hunt: Skaeth the Huntsman

I miss Underwolds as the isolation lasts, so I decided to paint Beastgrave starter warbands and try to convince my flatmate to play. I began with Skaeth's Wild Hunt. I adapted the color scheme from Black Sloth Hell Swamp Aelves. For starters, the boss: Skaeth the Huntsman.

Izolacja trwa i tęskno do Underworldsów, postanowiłem więc pomalować bandy z podstawki Beastgrave i postarać się przekonać do gry domowników. Najpierw zająłem się Skaeth's Wild Hunt. Schemat kolorystyczny zaadaptowałem ze Swamp Aelfów z Black Sloth Hell. Na początek szef: Skaeth the Huntsman.
