The Skinnerkin

Legends travel far and wide of the feasts of the Summerking. Sweetmeats and rare morsels from every corner of the Mortal Realms grace his banquet hall. This noble ruler's table is open to knights and honest peasantry of all kinds. Yet what these feasters see as fine vittles are in fact mounds of steaming organs and plates of torn entrails - for this is a kingdom of delusional cannibals.

Pewdrig / Gristla / Carnskyr / Kretch / Seddrik

Of course, such a feast is only possible due to the hard work of the Summerking's butchers. The Skinnerkin, masters of slaughter, carry racks of meat hooks within their very flesh, intent on stringing up their prey upon these blades alive - for the sake of freshness. The cloying blood of previous kills flavours the flesh of the next as the Skinnerkin carry their prey with them, obsessed with collecting only the finest meat before they can return to the Summerkeep to cook.

The Skinnerkin - Gristla Tenderhooke

Here's the penultimate miniature of the Skinnerkin warband for Warhammer Underworlds: fork&knife-wielding Gristla Tenderhooke. Bon appétit!

Jedną spośród wskazanych przez autora dróg interpretacji tematu wrześniowego FKB („Ale numer”) było pokazanie figurki o nietypowej liczbie czegoś. Proszę więc: jednoręka bandytka - Gristla Tenderhook z ekipy the Skinnerkin.

Here's the third member of my Skinnerkin Warhammer Underworlds warband: Young Master Kretch. Inspired by Royal Decapitator mini, I made him an executioner's hood.

The Skinnerkin - Seddrik the Chain

I started a new Warhammer Underworlds warband: ghouls from the Skinnerkin. As I looked at them, I realized that I don't really know why AoS Flesh-Eater Courts have lush hair on their backs :D I cut out everyone's back hair, and sculpted some lumps in its place. I also changed the way I painted the skin from the one presented in Ghoul Skin Painting Tutorial to a dirtier look, more similar to that of Gardens of Hecate than mine. Seddrik the Chain underwent the operation first.

Lecę z nową ekipą do Warhammer Underworlds: ghoulami z the Skinnerkin. Jak na nich popatrzyłem, skonstatowałem, że nie bardzo wiem, dlaczego AoS-owi kanibale mają na plecach bujną sierść :D Powycinałem wszystkim kłaki i porzeźbiłem w to miejsce gruzła. Zmieniłem też sposób malowania skóry na brudniejszy, bardziej od mojego dotychczasowego zbliżony do tego z Gardens of Hecate. Na pierwszy ogień poszedł Seddrik the Chain.

The Exiled Dead Deintalos the Exile

I've converted a bit Deintalos, the leader of the Warhammer Underworlds Exiled Dead. A vampire without mouth just didn't seem right. I wanted him to fit both the original warband and my "courtly" ghouls (as a Flesh-Eater Courts abhorrant archregent). Here it is:

Odpowiadając na sformułowane w ramach Figurkowego Karnawału Blogowego przez Gonzo pytanie „Jeśli nie ludziki, to co?”, odpowiedziałbym: jeśli nie ludziki, to moje życie byłoby mało kolorowe i smutne - tak jak ten wampir tutaj - skonwertowany Deintalos z bandy the Exiled Dead do WHU. A tak serio, grałbym więcej w gry komputerowe; przeszedłbym Wiedźmina i Elden Ringa, na które ze względu na prymat malowania nie mam za bardzo czasu.

The Grymwatch - Talon, the Duke's Master of Hawks

The dukes's master of hawks, or so he believes himself to be, Master Talon scurries into battle with a song in his heart. He hunts out isolated prey, chasing them down with dogged determination. After all, he wishes only to impress the duke with the calibre of trophies he takes.

Having stumbled upon a crow bit, I upgraded Master Talon to make him look the part he has in mind a bit better than original model (which I like a lot too).

Przeczytawszy opis październikowego Figurkowego Karnawały Blogowego - „Lustereczko, lustereczko”, - od razu pomyślałem o ghoulach. Zgodnie z AoS-owym fluffem, cmentarni kanibale postrzegają siebie jako rycerzy, szlachtę i dworzan. Kiedy składałem ekipę The Grymwatch po raz pierwszy, nie miałem pomysłu, jak przerobić model Master Talon, żeby bardziej odzwierciedlał swoją wizję. Teraz była okazja i odpowiedni bit.

The Grymwatch

The ghouls of the Flesh-eater Courts suffer from the shared delusion that, far from being monstrous corpse-cannibals, they are in fact noble knights and dedicated men-at-arms. So it is with the Grymwatch, who ‘ride’ out at the command of the degenerate beast whom they perceive to be the heroic Duke Crakmarrow. Hailing from a blasted and ruined kingdom far to the north, the Grymwatch have come questing to slay the monstrous entity that they believe lurks at Beastgrave’s heart. After all, they can’t risk letting this terrible creature threaten their ‘crops’ or menace their ‘peasant folk’. Now, slavering, grunting and snarling, the ghouls of the Grymwatch scramble through the tunnels, honourable hunters in search of their monstrous prey.

The Grymwatch's Duke Crackmarrow

The leader of the Grymwatch - a degenerate beast perceived by his henchmen as heroic Duke Crakmarrow. Hailing from a blasted and ruined kingdom far to the north he is questing to slay the monstrous entity believed to lurk at Beastgrave’s heart.

After Valreek and Gristlewel the time has come to paint the boss of the Grymwatch. Here's my version of Duke Crackmarrow.

Przywódca Ponurej Straży - zdegenerowana bestia postrzegana przez swoich popleczników jako heroiczny diuk Crackmarrow. Pochodzi ze zrujnowanego królestwa na dalekiej północy, na rzecz którego podjął się pokonania potwornej istoty mającej zamieszkiwać w sercu Beastgrave.

Po Valreek i Gristlewelu przyszła kolej i na szefa ekipy Grymwatch. Powyżej moja wersja diuka Crackmarrowa.

The Grymwatch's Valreek

Similarly as in Gristlewel's case I wanted to add Valreek some "courtliness". In effect she lost some of hunter/tracker "charm" of the original, but a part of the trophies and the weapon stayed the same.

Podobnie jak u Gristlewela, tak i w przypadku Valreek chciałem podkreślić "dworskość" modelu. Straciła co prawda na jej rzecz nieco węszącego "uroku" oryginału, ale część trofeów i broń pozostały te same.

The Grymwatch's Gristlewel, Greatsword

Gristlewel is a ghoul full of contradictions. Despite he is a Greatsword by name, the original mini attacks with a Great Club. And although I understand it in the context of Flesh-Eater Courts lore, I somehow felt sorry for him. I wanted his equipment to reflect the way Gristlewel sees himself slightly more. So, as “the duke’s devoted comrade and honorable champion” he got a sword and a helmet.

Gristlewel to ghoul pełen sprzeczności. Choć z imienia jest miecznikiem, figurka w oryginale wali pałą. I choć w kontekście opowieści o Kanibalistycznych Dworach rozumiem zamysł twórców, to jakoś było mi go żal. Chciałem, żeby uzbrojenie w nieco większym stopniu oddawało sposób, w jaki sam siebie widzi Gristlewel. Dostał więc miecz i hełm na miarę "oddanego towarzysza i obrońcy honoru Diuka".

A keen observer will recognize him as a model from a ghoul skin tutorial. It is also possible that knowledgeable readers have seen that oxidized bronze somewhere. If Borgnine’s undead came to your mind, you’re on a right track! I tested the Colleague’s patina/verdigris tutorial on the mini.

Wnikliwy obserwator rozpozna w nim modela pozującego w tutoriala o skórze ghouli. Bywali w świecie czytelnicy mogą natomiast kojarzyć skądś oksydowany brąz. Jeśli przyszli komuś do głowy nieumarli Pana Borgnine'a, to słusznie. Na Gristlewelu testowałem patynowy samouczek Szanownego Kolegi. Grynszpan, co nie?

FKB LXIII: Ghoul Skin Painting Tutorial

Grish of Fat Lazy Painter blog proposed that November's topic of Polish mini blogosphere would be "I'd make it differently now". Maybe because I've been painting a group of ghouls for the third time in my blog history and for the third time I had no idea what colors I had used, I decided to make it differently now and describe the process step-by-step. Photos and short descriptions below.

Grish z bloga Fat Lazy Painter zaproponował, żeby tematem figurowej blogosfery na listopad było "Teraz zrobiłbym to inaczej". Może dlatego, że po raz trzeci w swojej historii maluję grupę ghouli i po raz trzeci okazało się, że nie pamiętam, jakich kolorów zwykłem używać, postanowiłem tym razem zrobić coś inaczej i spisać sobie kolejne kroki. Zapis poniżej. Żeby było "czyściej" przeszedłem w nim na angielski, bo i tak ćwierć tekstu to nazwy farbek, a kolejne 25 proc. słowa takie jak drybrush, highlight i shade.

Ghoul Skin Step-by-Step Painting Tutorial

1. Ulthuan Grey drybrush all over the skin (on a black base coat).

2. Ulthan Grey drybrush in exposed areas.

3. Diluted 1:1 mix of Skavenblight Dinge and Fenrisian Grey all over.

4. Shade w/ the mix with some Skavenblight Dinge added.

5. Highlight w/ the mix with some Ulthuan Grey added.

6. If there were hair on the mini it would be painted with Skavenblight Dinge.

The Grymwatch's Master Talon

Master Talon is the first of model in my Grymwatch which was modified in any way. In this particular case I limited the changes to adding some bloody meat between Talons mouth and an armhe is holding. Real convertions to come in following posts.

The Grymwatch's Duke's Harriers

Having ended with the Royal Butcher, I started converting one resurrectable Grymwatch character and all the named ones. I've simultaneously painted those members of the warband who needed only little upgrading or were good as they had been - like Duke's Harriers for example.

Ukończywszy prace nad królewskim rzeźnikiem, wziąłem się za konwertowanie jednego wskrzeszalnego i wszystkich imiennych członków Ponurej Straży. Równolegle malowałem jednak te figurki, których ulepszenia były minimalne albo w których nie było nic do zmiany. Całkiem bez konwersji obyły się na przykład "sokoły" Diuka.
